makes sense. I didn't read far enough in the debian wiki.

I am still not happy with my current solution to the problem because it assumes that a long is big enough for a time_t value which may or may not be right (at least better than int which it was before)

The test got updated so it will fail if long and time_t cant handle 64 bit integers.
