`typeof` is a GCC extension (but widely supported - the code above works fine in `clang`). But `typeof` is going to be added to the C23 standard. This posting was recently made by the C23 Project Editor: https://twitter.com/__phantomderp/status/1494801365297676293 I would say that unless you need to support weird compilers (MSVC?) then it should be fine to use it.
