If I understand the approach is to bring libopts functionality into the tools, and use the internal structures to auto-generate part of the documentation based on output provided by the tool itself. Is that correct? That looks sound. I am thinking of the libopts implementation could be a burden in the transition and the future, and there quite some tools which automate that part. Have you considered alternatives (e.g., in libidn2 we use gengetopts)?
