Thunderbird / Enigmail / GnuPG2 -- cooperation stopped after GPG upgrade?

Well, you need to do that:  First enter

  gpg-agent --version

Does the printed version match the gpg version?  Try

  gpg --debug 1024 -v -K

this has the side-effect of starting the agent.  Same error mesage as
above?  Run

  gpg-agent -v --daemon

this will start the agent directly.  Error messages?

Finally what is the output of

  gpgconf --list-dirs
