problem with german umlauts

Setting "charset utf-8" in your gpg.conf for 1.4.11 should do the
trick.  I can't recall if there are any keys in my keyring to
double-check on, but I'm pretty sure it has correctly displayed
cyrillic characters in the past and I am using 1.4.11.
