compatible? GnuPG & PGP 6.5.8

Yes, but it's generally easier to go the other way around.  You'll find
that route to be much easier.

Most people in the OpenPGP community will strongly advise you against
using PGP 6.5.8, for very good reasons.  I'm one of them.  :)
