GPG 1.4.x v.s 2.x

Depends on what you want to do with it.  If you're only worried about
OpenPGP (RFC2440 or RFC4880) traffic, then the 1.4 tree is the one to
use; it has the longest history, more eyes have looked at it, and the
user community is larger.
