How secure is GnuPG

Alright, I spent several hours reading through the information that you
guys suggested.  Thanks for those links.

There's still something I don't understand.  Perhaps someone can help.

If people recommend 2048 bit keys for RSA, and DSA is comparable to
Elgamal, which is comparable to RSA...

Wouldn't that mean that a 1024 bit DSA key offers less security than what
is recommended?

Or is there a reason why a 1024 bit DSA is about as secure as a 2048 bit
RSA?
