This is caused by the fact that Claes' message is lacking a charset=...
header (he's using Hotmail, so this isn't really surprising ;-) ) while
my message has this header (with the correct charset). If you manually
set the charset to iso-8859-1 (resp. latin1) you should also see the
correct characters in his message.
