With gpg you can't mix options and arguments. As soon as a non-option
is recognized the remaining words on the line are not checked for
beeing an option. What you want is:
> $ gpg --list-keys --with-fingerprint smasher
> Version: GnuPG v1.3.6 (FreeBSD)
Still using 1.3.6 ? I just released 1.3.92.
