  There is also often differences between:

  gpg --no-options --pgp2 --armor -r (((your_key))) --sign --encrypt <foo >foo.asc

and

  gpg --no-options --pgp2 --armor -r (((your_key))) --sign --encrypt foo 

  specifically, with the right options, I have been able to --encrypt (only)
to pgp2 with 1.06, but not if I use a pipe.
