Does GnuPG implement MIME support?

I'm wondering if GnuPG implements MIME support, as in RFC 2015
(http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2015.html), or if this is left to the MUA.

I ask because I'm going to try my hand at implementing transparent
GnuPG/PGP support in Evolution
(http://www.helixcode.com/apps/evolution.php3), and I'd like to clarify
just how much work I should expect GnuPG to do for me.
