We are talking about different things here. The idea behind the
unix domain socket thing is to have something like a callback:
Users' pass phrases could be cached over multiple invocations of gpg
(think of ssh-agent), and the gui application could pop up a dialog
box asking for keys even when gpg was invoked from a terminal based
applicatio running in an xterm. (Thinking about mutt here.)
